Pls help learn to stick weld

I am having a very hard time learning how to stick weld (MMA). Everytime I tried to join 2 metal together the molten metal always stays on 1 side only not both and not to metion joining 90 degrees it is even harder. Can anyone tell me how to do correctly?

Try using one of the various weave patterns shown in the picture.

Pause at each side, to allow the metal time to build up there.
