cnc router frame: welding or screwing and/or glueing ?

    Hi.

I want to make a frame for a cnc router.
With 4.5 mm thick 60x100 mm steel tube.

I read welding the frame can give stress and inaccuracy to the frame.

How about screwing and perhaps glue'ing the steel tubes together ?
With lots of M8 bolds and extra plates to hold them.
Would the 4.5 mm thick tube be thick enough to have M8 thread in it ?

    Would glue'ing be nessesary ?

Would this make the frame more accurate then welding ?
Would it be strong enough ?

The frame, if welded properly, will not warp or have enough stress to affect a router style setup. the end use product tolerences are not that close and there is not enough stress on the frame to be of any significance. Many have built metal frames for router, laser, and plasma. Its when you try it on a mill to machine metals that this come into play. Browse around and ask specific question to those who have built and they will have solutions to minimal warpage....i.e. if your are using linear rails, shimming or epoxy beds under the rail after assembly. Most using round rod have designed adjusting collars to make these tolerances doable.

My goal is to machine metal, alu and steel.
And i hope to do this with 0.05 mm accuracy or better.

I am not sure what 'working envelop' means.

I am assuming it means the travel of the x,y and y axis.
Plan is 500 mm travel in X and Y direction.
And about 350-400 mm in Z direction.

Its for hobby use, running perhaps a few hours per week.

yes that is correct...I assumed when you said Router you were working in wood or plastic. That is a very challenging project . Here is a better location on the forum to look for your answers. There are a few with your type of design there.

    Another mill project

    Good luck on the build

    Strange, the thread has disappeared.
Hopefully the webmaster will reply to my question about it.
