    Question Welder

What is the thickness that the below welder would be most suitable for?

And what is the maximum thinkness that could be welded with it.

    Thanks

Sorry the item number is 44567.
90 amp flux wire welder 115 volts uses .030" fluxed-core wire.

    Thanks

The PDF manual shows a range of 16 ga. steel to 1/8" so,
pushing to the maximum would be the 1/8"

Sounds like it would be good for sheet metal but not for anything over 1/8"

Not a very useful general use welder for the occasional hobby welder which would run into 1/4" once in a while.

What is the minimum AMP or however it is measured to weld 1/4"

    Thanks

It can weld 1/8-3/16 but the duty cycle is the killer only 10% @ 80 amp you would only get to weld around 6 seconds per minute. If tacking is all you will be doing with it then it will be fine, But for any real fabricating I would advise to steer clear of it and look for a higher duty cycle.

Most larger welders will have a 60% - 100% duty cycle.

you will probably need somewhere near 150amp+ to put a reasonably hot weld in greg b

Mr. Chips: Try Pima Welding Supply ( one is on Park Ave, South Tucson and one is on Prince Ave near I 10) They sell the Miller 175 MIG at a very resonable price..I have had mine for 5 years, it welds excellent, low maintenence, very good machine to learn on.It is smooth enough to "stack Dimes" with out a big learning curve. The 110 models are really marginal for anything other than thin sheet metal. And as far as I'm concerned can be dangerous do to lack of penetration.

Flux wire is ok for welding outside in a windy condition ( the Miller will also use flux cored wire, if necessary) but using the .025 or .035 wire with mixed gas really makes a better, safer weld..

    Adobe (old as dirt )

    Thanks Adobe
This is the information I needed. It has been in the back of my mind for some time and is a very useful tool. And we always need one more tool.

If you have a TSC near you and have 220 service, I would suggest a Hobart Handler 187. TSC had a sale on them for $549 plus tax a while ago but we talked to one of the managers over the past weekend and they still honored the price. It's a smoking deal for a welder very similiar to a MM 180. 0.023" wire with C25 gas will give great results on sheet metal. They were also about half the price of the local gas supplier when it came to refilling gas cylinders.
