Copper can be soldered. Other metals that require hotter temperatures (like stainless steel) require brazing.
I'm making some hanging racks for a local metal plater out of 3/16" copper round stock and wanted to know the proper term for the welding process needed. I'll have to send these out and don't want to get a quote for the wrong process.
Thanks, Dave

OK Thanks.
It would be wise to talk to the metal plater who needs the racks and find out if there are any issues with particular metals. Platers use many acids and harsh chemicals, and even if not dipped the racks will be exposed to fumes. Some metals may be a lot better than others, ie silversoldering instead of brazing or soldering.
Also consider the difference in strength you need, lead/tin solder is much weaker than Silver Solder or brazing.
S.S. is probably your best bet as it works nice on copper as it is strong and flows at a lower temperature than brazing.
