Default Looking for input of building RFC-23a type control or Dialarc welder

I picked up a few Airco 250A HeliWelders (Same as a Miller DialArc) but they were all part of a training rig and converted for remote control by removing the rheostats and putting them in remote control panels. Guess what part got scrapped when they scrapped the rig? yup.. all the controls..

So I need to replace the rheostats and would like to have foot control.

Looking at the circut diagrams and reading it looks like the control circut is DC. Some have stated it run about 30V and 130W

I was wondering if it would be possible to use a PWM DC motor control or something like that to replace the large expensive rheostats.

    I found 400W 40v dc motor controllers for $10..
