Angry welding 6061 alum before chrome plating

I have a large piece of 6061 aluminum that has a 1 inch hole in it (oops) and the material will finish at about .430 thick. My thought is to bore the hole and make a over size plug, (press fit) and have it welded on the inside of the cover. After I am finished machining it, the outside of this motorcycle cover will get chrome plated. The question is, should I also weld the side that will get chrome plating also? Will the welding affect chrome plating? Thanks:

If you can make a interference fit to start. weld the inside and then blend the outside so it is perfectly flush there should not be a problem with a chrome part. If you had to anodize the part over a weld it would be very noticeable. Prolly the best bet would be a triple plate, copper, nickel, chrome.
