I have a 1994 partner 7, everything is rebuilt, new amps, new motor, Miltronics when thru the control. The problem i have is when moving the z axis up, in .001 or .01 increments, it will move so far, then I will start getting a following error, then faults out. with out the belt on the motor its fine. I replaced the thrust bearings in the top of the ball screw, cant feel any stiff spots in the ball screw, tried adding weight to the counter weight, still it will more so far, then fault out, exact same number and about every 50 or 60 thousandths, moves fast and slow up and down no problem, but when going slow, like cutting a angle using xyz it faults out moving slow. Anybody ever have this problem? I am almost bald working on this machine. EFMAUTOCLUTCH.COM |

| What control version? What motors and amps does it have? You could check the cables for good continuity, noise shielding, including tach and encoder feedback. Sounds like amp/servo tuning could also be an issue. Depending on the control, get to the diagnostic screen and watch the error to see if it is leading or lagging may help. Milltronics may have a documented procedure for doing the tuning without specialized equipment. If not, the drive manufacturer like Glentek may. A following error is the difference between the commanded and actual encoder position the loop tracks for a given analog input from the control verses its velocity feedback from the tach on how fast the motor is moving. One aspect says there is a trimmer pot procedure adjustment on the amp or some analog signal is being compromised. The other aspect as you have investigated, is outside influence, be that counterbalance or a bind. DC
