Need 80V, 9 amp stepper driver

I am looking for a high power stepper driver. At least 80V, 9 amps.

Would Like to have current limit on hold, and microstepping.

complete drives are preferred but DIY drives are ok too.

Any ideas?

You really should use servos at those power ratings. The practical limit is about 100-250W depending on the application.

What are building that requires so much power?

the drivers are for the Bridgeport NEMA42 motors on my series one and series II Bridgeport mills.

Yes a servo drive would be better but I don't have the funds for that right now.

The Bridgeport drivers are ok but big and hard to debug and fix when they break down.

Hello

Sorry for my ignorance but is that a Uni or Bipolar Stepper motor?

Regards

They are six wire motors so i believe that they can be wired as either unipolar or bipolar. This brings up another question I had, which is "when given a choice to wire a motor as either a uni-polar or Bipolar which is best?"

Bridgeport schematics show the motors wired as unipolar with their drivers.

Hello

I have a design, which has lain dormant for a while, which is definitely capable of 8 amps and so with a change of components may make 9A.

If you are an electronics engineer with PIC (PIC 16F690) programming skills you may have a copy otherwise I will have to search for the parts I have had made.

My understanding is that ALL six wire steppers are to be driven unipolar, 4 are bipolar, and 8 wire can be wired either.

These are nice drives. Do you know if they will ship to the USA?

Thank you

Richard I have indeed programed lots of PIZ16F devices and would love to get a copy of the design. Should I e-mail you?

do you know what the spec means when it says 8.2A peak? How long can it keep this power up? Will it run a NEM42 motor?
