Want to buy motors/driver for a four axis machine.

    Hello,

    I want to buy:
    * three or four servo motors
    * driver board
    * and any other parts necessary other than a computer and mill design itself

Software will also be something I need though I believe that it can downloaded on the internet so correct me if I'm wrong there.

This has been a project that I've been longing to do for some time. Funds have kept me to do it until now not to say I have a bunch now either!

Should anyone see this who has a basic setup to get me started and can let it go at a decent price please let me know.

My goal is to make a three/four axis mill and learn about the designing of a machine and how to actually put it together. If all goes well I'd like to design another type of machine after that though it's on the far back burner for now.

Down to the brass tax of things, for this first project I will probably be looking to spend between $350 and $500 total. I don't want to go overboard and if it can be done for less that this than thats great too. Please keep this in mind...

Also, I have some parts that I'd like to have identified. I believe that they are two breaker boards from a wire forming machine (Itaya) plus a computer from an Itaya as well though it's probably not worth time examining.

That about wraps it up, so please if you can help out someone who wants to get off of the ground then drop a line.

One other thing, if anyone reads this and needs a spring for a machine that they are working on or a part they manufacture drop a line too. That is my profession (spring maker) and I'd do my best to help you out.

    Thanks for reading,
    Jesse

Depending on what you mean by "any other parts", you are probably severely under funded. A great start for a project would be a Gecko G540 and 4 Keling steppers and a Keling power supply. Those items are going to use up most of the $500 you mentioned. The G540 is about $300, steppers are about $40-$50 and the power supply is $60-$90.

I would suggest you figure out the design for the mill itself then put together the electronics. That may keep you from buying twice.

How much more would I have to put up. I want to use Servo motors not steppers too and I do actually have a couple at this point. I'll list those later on.

    The mill itself can be small say 1' X 1' X 6".

    LMK, all input is good.

    On another note,

This is the one motor I have:
PACIFIC SCIENTIFIC R33GENC-R2-NS-NV-00 BRUSHLESS SERVOMOTOR Tcs 21 LB-IN, 2.4 NM
    Ke 70 V/KRPM, .67 V/RAD/SEC
    Ics 3.9 AMPS, RL 6.9 OHMS, S/N 689723 DATE 9426

If I wanted to put together the mill w/ two more of these motors then what kind of driver board would I need?

Also, aside from the Mill and computer what else would I need beyond that?

I take it I could make the mill larger too w/ this size motor, so that would change.

    All help appreciated,
    Jesse

    Red face

I don't know how many more times "servo" would have to be in this post for me to see it... Sorry about my recomendation for the G540 and steppers.
