Here's what I'm looking for gentlemen, http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=190260135121 and I'm having a rediculously difficult time finding any tool suppliers that even have a clue as to what I 'm talking about. Clearly I am not 'phrasing' my searches correctly, and I am also apparently not describing the item correctly. Please advise on: 1) Correct terminology, ("Jacobs spindle nose chuck" get's only 'deer in the headlights' looks), 2) WHERE (other than EBay) I can find someone that sells these and knows what they are, 3) Suitable substitues for "Jacobs", (all so far think I"m referring to drill chucks when I say "jacobs" and "chuck" in the same sentence), 3) Any other comments that you think might be helpfull. Thanks, Paul |

| I think the key terms you are leaving out are Rubber & Flex. I think if you described it as a "Jacobs rubber flex collet chuck for a lathe" anybody trying to sell tooling would know what you are talking about (One would hope). I would imagine MSC has them... Their website is very difficult to find anything on but they have a comprehensive inventory. Jacobs rubber flex collets are also popular in tapping heads (Tapmatic maybe others?) so that might be another way to describe them too.... "A large version of a Tapmatic rubber collet" Are you looking for a kit of chuck and collets? Or just a replacement collet? Good luck. |

| Thanks for the info and suggestions. My reply is a bit late becasue I have been on an extended trip. I'll try your suggestions. However, I spoke with someone at MSC and they could not find anything of the sort. Thanks again, Paul |

It’s often very difficult to find an engineering tooling item on the internet, due to the way that search engines normally rank database type directory & editorial sites, so you are forced to troll through them in the hope that you can find what you are looking for. This is really frustrating when you are busy and need to find a supplier quickly. I got so fed up with it for my technical training courses that I created a specialist site, and every day now I am adding more and more products & technical info, videos on site. It is not a forum but I would welcome any good technical input etc. http://www.mctooling.com/index/listings/category421.htm |

I'm looking for the CHUCK. Fuzzyracing1969,
Thanks, Paul PS - Do any of you responding to this thread have the center-to-center dimensions for the the D1-5 3-pin connector? Donkey Hotie - The first item you listed above is for sale on eBay for $685 plus shipping - the second, for $775 plus shipping. I think I can accomplish my goals for less. Thanks for the citations. The proper name is Jacobs Rubber-Flex. I have talked to Jacobs in the last year and they had one engineer there yet that knew about them. They made two sizes, one went to 1 3/8" diameter and the other went to 1" diameter (much rarer). They have not made either for years and years but show up on Ebay quite regularly. I have the larger chuck which I would sell, it would need an adaptor to go onto your machine. I don't have collets. |
