    software ??

i am overrun with a number of software choices . i am in the midst of a mini mill 4 axes cnc conversion , i am looking at mach3 for the control side but am undecided on the cad side of this . i use tebis on a reagular basis but for obvious reasons that is out of the question for home use . i`d like to see what everyone is using . i`d like something that can run 2d and 3d .

    Have you looked at Rhino/RhinoCAM?

On the CAD side, Rhino's pretty hard to beat, in terms of features and ease of use. And Mecsoft's RhinoCAM program plugs into it so that you don't have to constantly be switching back and forth to make minor adjustments. The entry-level product has excellent 2d and 3d functionality, and you can either get a 4th axis module separately or buy the Pro product which includes that and a lot of other high-end features.
