The problem:
Turning quantities of brass bullet points. (Hundreds, maybe thousands) Not as simple as one thinks!
Purchased a Harbor Freight bench lathe #44859 8" x 12" for learning and prototype work.
Started knowing nothing about machining just a strong desire to get what I wanted.
After ruining a set of jaws, got the thing turning truer than true at the 0.250" diameter I am using.
Went through the agony of learning to sharpen/create cutting tools.
I took the end design to the machine shops that have the swiss screw machines. Impressive! Every machine shop is so busy that spring/summer is when things slow down to get my fairly small task taken care of. I figure to, after machine setup, to run it for a shift as a start.
To the best of my knowledge I have exhausted the resources of southern Idaho and northern Utah. Bummer
What to do? Set up my bench lathe for cnc and do the best I can, or?
In addition to not being a machinist, I know nothing about cnc but a pretty techie such as software development and programming.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm open to about anything.
Thanks
Roy
