Hello
I am hoping you guys can help me out with some options. I am looking to pick up a small desktop 3 Axis machine, the big issue is a need a tool changer with a minimum of 4 pockets.
I use large commercial grade machines every day for work and life with out a tool changer just doesn't appeal to me.
I have looked at the Stepcraft machines and am looking for other options if there is anything available.
Hoping to be a desktop machine with some form of an ATC.
Any help would be appreciated

Gerry,
Campbell's machine is very nice!

Jeff, small chunks of wood, at most 8x8x2
Gerry, that is a nice setup. Something like that would work very well.

Automizer,
What is your budget?

I am trying not to get wrapped up in a budget at this point. I am just trying to see what is available and work backwards. That being said I would like to keep it below 7k USD all in. Tooling, electrical upgrades if needed etc. I am not opposed to more for the right machine though.

I don't know the exact price, but I think the machine in the video is at least $10K-$15. Anything with an ATC is going to be close to $5K-$7K for the spindle alone, with the required accesories it needs.

Good to know.
The lowest priced spindle I have found is the Kress 800 FME with the tool changer attachment that comes out to roughly $1200USD
Right now I am trying to build the budget for the machine so the more options I can look at the better decision I can make... hopefully

Well if you go with something like that, and a Stepcraft, then you'll be well within your budget.
https://stepcraft.us/product/automat...-800w-spindle/
But that's a really lightweight hobby setup, and I don't know how long that kress will last.
Anything with a "Real" ATC spindle is going to cost about 5x more.
There are some ATC adapters available for chinese spindles, but I don't know how reliable or durable they are, and I've never seen a machine that uses one.
There are almost no small machines that I know of that come ready to run with an ATC.

Automizer,
It would be nice to be able to address you by your first name.
I usually don't bad mouth a product however the Kress with the associated tool changer is not a production tool.
Lookup "Widgitmaster" here on the CNCZone he is a retired Nasa Journeyman Master Machinist and confirm the Kress performance and durability before you toss a pile of money in the trash. I believe his failed with less than two (2) months of daily usage.
