Question Looking for a CNC capable of doing compound angles

    Hello everyone!!

I'm new to this forum, so i'm not really sure if i'm in the right section, just tell me if not.

First of all i'm a student in product design looking to buy a CNC to cut wood and acrylic. But to be honnest I really don't know where to start looking.... We dont need a huge machine since our pieces ares about 1'-0'' long, but we do need it to be able to cut compound angles in the case of our project and production and we we're told not every machines are able to do so.

So what information do we need to look for when taking a look at the technical information of a machine?

And do you have any CNC cutter you would suggest us taking in consideration the characteristics we need? We have about a budget of 500-1000$ for it, can we get a machine able to do that in that limitation?

Thanks a lot in advance for your help, I know i'm not that clear, but as i've said earlier we don't really know where to start, so if you have any questions do not hesitate.

    Have a wonderfull day.

    Samuel Gauthier

Hello, thanks for the quick reply,

in fact i started looking and found the shapeoko 3 wich looks interesting i just dont know if it would do the job... and we're planning to buy used so that opens up the possibilities a bit.

Concerning what we want to do, i joined a picture, so on each piece there is 2 angles wichare all different.

A table say or miter saw with jigs and/or fixtures would be a much better option.
Imo, a CNC router is not the right tool to be cutting those angles.. You'd need to make many, many passes with a round nose tool to cut those angles. If you are cutting solid wood parts, they'll likely splinter quite a bit.

A saw would make each cut in a few seconds, whereas a Shapeoko will take several minutes for each cut, and the quality won't be as good as a saw cut.

    Thanks Ger21,

in fact that's how we made the pieces i sent you (with a mitter saw) but the problem is that it's not precise enough, especially for the distance between the angles. It needs to be really precise cuz our piece (as you will see in the picture) needs to close perfectly. That's why we wanted to opt for a cnc or any automated machine. The only machine I found which could do this is this one : but it's super expensive.... So i'm not sure what other options exist....

Unfortunately, there are no affordable options, imo, within 100x your budget.
