Default I'm after some help PLEASE with a 6090 stepmores.

Hi all, as the title says I'm after some help with my 6090 machine. I purchased the machine some time ago now, I tried to run the thing from my laptop, NO joy, I purchased a computer, it had Windows 7 on it NO joy, I then purchased another computer with XP, I've hooked it up and loaded all the settings, pins, ports. Still no joy! When I had it set up using windows 7 I could load G code and run the G code the machine would move but not correctly, it wouldn't save the settings for some reason. Now with the XP it saves the pins and ports info but NO movement, I can load the G code and run it but no movement. I've gone into the diagnostics page and the XYZ axis are in red not green. Oh an it's running Mach3. I'm new to all this, although I do have a Torchmate plasma table but it's a different kettle of fish all together. Any help would be greatly Appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It's hard to say what the trouble could be, but let's start with the basics. When you turn it on, do the motors lock up, or can you still move the axes by hand? Are you sure you've got the ports and pins set up correctly in Mach3? Did you go into BIOS and make sure the parallel port is in EPP mode? When you had it running, but not correctly, what was incorrect about what it did? Which settings were not being saved?

Hey Awerby,or is it Andrew? Anyway thanks for replying, I set the ports and pins according to the info I have, and that was what wasn't being saved even though I did click apply. Also when I had the machine running on windows 7 the Z axis wouldn't move, and the Y axis was running backwards, but when I did what the instructions said to fix the problem it stayed the same. I was told by the guy I bought the machine off to get a computer that runs windows XP which I have done it saves the settings now as in the ports and pins, I can load a G code and run it but there is no movement. I have gone into the diagnostics page and the Axis are in red not green, I've hit reset, no joy, and reloaded the mach3 soft ware, no joy. But I haven't tried the Bios you are talking about.

    Thanks Dave.

There seems to be something wrong with your computer as Mach3 runs fine on a Windows 7 system.

If the vendor advertises the machine for use with MACH3 they should provide the MACH3 Profile (XML). For a parallel port version it will be the same no matter the OS version. You have to make sure you have the port address set correctly (that CAN vary between different PC's) You cannot run windows 7 54 bit with the pport setup but 32 bit or XP either should work. The vendor also should be able to give you the tuning parameters for their machine.

Yeah Quite possible, although I had problems running it with the windows7 and got another computer, and the guy said it was working fine for him and he's a computer tech or so I'm told.
Any ideas as to what's wrong?

Hey Torchhead, I did check the port address it is correct it says port1 0x378, 25,000hz which is correct. I've gone through and done all that sort of stuff, I can load a Gcode and run it but no movement.
As I said I go into the Diagnostics page and the axis are in red not green, I thought it may have been the stop switch at the end of the axis but I can put a metal object in front of it and the red light comes on
and nothing changes. So I'm a bit stumped.

Ah it's a bit hard to do as the computer I'm using now isn't the one the Mill's hook up to. The other one doesn't have the internet so I'll have a look and maybe take a pic of it and post it. Is that possible?
I'm new to this so I'm not too sure what I'm looking for. But I'll have a look and see if I can take a pic. Oh & thanks for your help.

So did the 6090 vendor provide you with a MACH3 profile to start from or are you just guessing at what the Port and pin numbers should be for the motor outputs? The red or green does not indicate Go or STOP or an error on the outputs. It is typically to show polarity (pos = red X neg = green check), enabled/disabled on inputs of if an LED if input has been taken LOW or HIGH) There is a the Charge Pump signal that MOST controllers use that has to be setup in the Output Signals./ If the DRO's move when you jog MACH IS sending pulses SOMEWHERE

Hey Torch head, yes they did supply me with some instructions if you could call them that, they're in Chinglish vety hard to understand! But yes I did set the machine up according to their instructions. Ports pins the whole thing, that's why I'm stumped. I went on to youtube and did a search on getting a 6090 machine running and I found a video by Paul Campbell, the guy seemed to be switched on about the whole thing so I watched some of his vid's and noticed that when he went to the diagnostics page his axis were highlighted in green and thought that maybe something wasn't turned on or something like that. I'm going to check some of the suggestions that have been made by some of the good people on this forum today I'll post what I find later. Thanks for your input.

    Cheers Dave.

Hi Daniellyall, I want, or would really like some help setting the thing up and getting it to cut things the right size. I've set the ports and pins and set the measurements to MM and loaded the Gcode for the road runner and it cut it so small you can hardly see it. The Disc I got with the machine has a lot of little video clips on things to do but there's no sound and they go so fast you can't see what happening and everything's in Chinese. I did go in and try to calibrate the Axis, actually I loaded the road runner before I tried to calibrate the axis and it was quite a bit bigger,
then after it was so small. Any ideas?

look up youtube everything you wont on M3 is there, read the manual its in there how to do the calibration.

the roadrunner file in inch so being small is correct 7.7282 mm in x and 6.3797 mm in y if its smaller than that your setting are out.

on the settings page there is a set steps per unit button use that to do your calibration do it over a 100 mm if you can do it, do in one direction only going back to start after running it then do it again to its bang on reason if there's backlash calibrating in two directions can put the calibration out every time you run it.

also set your speed to 500 mm/min with 50 for acc once you have it calibrated you can speed it up going up by 100 mm/min and 10 on acc every time do it to it is not accurate then back of in speed to it comes right. the eayist way to do it is turn your other motors off and do it with Z axis only when you have it so it moves the same amount every time you run it check your other axis.

I do it with a file that has 1000 moves in any axis with lots of speed changes. I can get my machine to +/- 0.03 on all axis in M3 doing it this way it takes time but you know its good or bad at 1000 moves.

Hey Daniel, Mate if possible can you put a link up please? Mate it's so frustrating, a disc did come with the bloody thing but its all in chinglish and I'm stuffed if I can understand it.
There seems to be quite a few things on the disc but when you open the thing in my computer sort of thing there's only two Icons artcam and Mach3 but when you double click on them
they open up to like five or so other icons and when you click on them they open up with more icons man it's doing my friggen head in... Ah my kingdom for some decent bloody insturctions..
