NPT thread milling I how do I set up NPT thread milling? I'm new to CAM and CNC, but I followed all the tutorials, looked through all the help sections and forums for both Visual Mill and Alibre Cam and haven't been able to figure out tapered thread milling. I'm not sure where to define the taper angle. Any help would be great! Thanks

I'm pretty sure you won't be able to threadmill a NPT thread with a single point cutter. The inserted threadmill cutters for NPT have tapered inserts. I'm pretty sure you just use a standard thread mill operation.

It's built into the solid or inserted tool. They make reamers for the larger NPT threads when tapping, but when thread milling 8-18 TPI NPT reaming is not necessary. Steve

| Can you draw a spiralling helix in VM?

Pretty Sure not. Could import the geometry and program in VM with it set to output moves as linear segments. This will put a LOT of lines through the control but will work fine. This is in reference to NPT milling with a single point tool.

Thanks for the input! I'll buy a muli-tooth thread mill and give it a try this weekend and see how they turn out.

NPT thread milling Hi, I always use the Seco threadmilling wizard for npt threadmilling. Download the software (it's free!) from:- www.secotools.com it will recommend tools and give part-program output and correct cutting speed / feed. cheers Fred the thread
