controlling entry point in horizontal roughing

*Disclaimer* I have also posted this on the Mecsoft user forum

I have a part, visualize something like a piece of 1.5" angle iron with 1/4" thick walls. a few inches long. I want to rough it out using say 1/2" DOC and shallow, maybe .05" WOC, using what amounts to a horizontal roughing MOP. It does no good to limit the WOC when the software insists on plunging into the middle of the part (100% WOC) even though it is not a pocket and so has 3 open sides that it could enter from, easily satisfying the limitation imposed by .05" WOC.

Any idea what I can do to get a toolpath with an entry point outside of the part WITHOUT creating 2D geometry (2.5D MOP)?
