This is what I've been looking for! I'm very new to cnc so forgive my simple questions. I use Autosketch to make dxf (there are a few different versions of dxf in Autosketch for some reason) and want to generate tool paths.

It would be very helpful to me, and to others, if you could make a quick video for youtube that shows you setting up the files, running it, looking at the generated files, and then feeding it into a g-code simulator program to make the cuts.

    Very nice work!

    Converter...

I dont' think there is a MPG to DXF converter. The Format, seems to be proprietary although, being an ascii file, shouldn't be too difficult to write a converter. Which brand your plasma cutter is ? May be that the company that sells it could have a converter.

    Thanks Sandro for your reply.

I don't know the manufacturer of the plasma cutting machine.
Can you help me on where to find the meaning of the codes used by MPG format?

    Thank you in advance.

If you don't have documentation of the machine it will be very hard to desume the file format. I'm surprised that you don't know the builder.. There is no builder logo or machine model name on the machine frame ?? The .MPG extension is meaningless if there is not any other reference. If you have A LOT OF TIME to spend.. try this :

Write a program that cut for example a squared plate of known size (let'ìs say 100 x 100 mm) and examine the output code. You should desume some info like torch on and torch off command.. positioning commands and so on..

Then pass to more complex geometries like arcs or circles..

This could work, but it absolutely will take a lot of time and I don't know if it'worth the effort. Keep the forum updated on your researches..
