Can Viper 200 drive a Fanuc DC Servo Motor?

Hello,

Can Viper 200 drive a Fanuc 20M Brush DC servo Drive? the specs. are
23Nm TRQ, 18 Amp, 40 amp. Peak, 213V 1500RPM . I want to retrofit a Mazak HMC with Mach3.

That voltage is a bit high (215) but It can run at 180 volts. I'm currently doing testing on some with IGBT's.

How would the servo motor work with 180 volts? The top RPM would be 80%of what it did as new? Will this affects the Torque?

It doesn't affect torque (very little) because the drive only gives the voltage to the motor it needs. At low speeds the drive may give the motor only a low voltage.

Yes, the motor will only run 80% of its top speed.

I've used up to 4000 line (8000 cnt) encoders. Depends on your motor gearing which encoder res you need.

Doesn't 4,000 line = 16,000 count in quadrature

A basic line/rev count of 4000 line IS in quadrature, but can be increased by 2x or 4x quadrature.

I'd like to be able to connect to a Resolver. Anyone know how?

No, brushless uses too many wires. A few years ago i bought some Teknic servo drives (worldservo.com) . They are a nice drive, but way too much work to connect them up. Thats when i decided to develop my own.

I plan on working on an AC servo though by next year.
