Default Need help setting up viper 200

I am setting up my first viper 200 drive using the original servos and renco encoders. Had to trace wires from the encoders to get the right wires to plug into the drive. So , I finally got to the point of being able to turn the shaft and see the encoder reading. The problem I am having is going through the manual. I am doing exactly what it says about increasing the the numbers by 50 , but the motor does not stiffen up. Maybe just a little bit , but not a huge difference.

Do I need to be connected to Mach3 first?

Any info on getting the motor to move would be greatly appreciated. I am just at a lost. I can provide whatever info to help get me through this first drive.

Does the motor hold when you turn the power on ?

Does it move back and forth when you exercise in viper tune ?

What is the motor rated voltage and what is your powersupply voltage ?

what is your P and D settings ?

ok , Larry , I kind of jumped the gun. after a few hours of going over your manual and doing some searching , I finally got the x to hold and started tuning the pid . After that the y was easy. Sorry got frustrated for a minute. But now the problem I am having is that the x and y encoders have been updated but the z is still the original heidenhain ero 120. I can not find the pin outs on that encoder anywhere . I have other encoders , but the shaft on the motor is 3/8 and the shaft for my other encoders need to be 1/4 inch. I really dont want to take the z apart and chuck it up in the lathe to turn down the shaft. I was going to just try and run the original encoder , but like I said I absolutely can not find any information on it. Any thoughts?

I would get a USdigital E5 (will go up to a 3/8" shaft) before trying to turn down a shaft.

ah ha , forgot that I had 2 complete manuals on this machine. Here is the original encoder wire. I will try this one before I buy a replacement.
