    Spindle help

Has anyone tried using a treadmill motor as a spindle motor for a mill? Should it be used as a direct drive, belt or gear? Also has anyone converted a Harbor freight 9x20 lathe to CNC?

    thanx

Find a standard 3 phase motor and a VFD (i just got a 2,2kw motor + vfd for 230$). I would say belt driven as it is easier to adjust than gear and direct drive and quiter than gear

Check these two threads for a start. The HF 9x20 and Grizzly 9x19 are virtually identical machines (the two sellers just measure differently).

John and I have both done CNC conversions and we have both used treadmill motors for the spindle drives.
