I am thinking of rebuilding my Mill to cnc:


I want to use stepper motors. I need some help in finding the right ones.
What would you suggest?
My knowledge of electronics is neglectable :-)

I could by a 190 oz in set from Stepperworld, but is that enough power?

i doubt that 190 will be enough and the z axis will be problematic unless you do only the quill

I would think about Keling 425 in/oz for $54 each, they have good performance and have been used on the X3 machine with good sucess, which appears to be about the size of yours.

I looked to the 425 oz. But the The FET-3 can drive unipolar stepper motors- 5, 6, or 8 wire. And the Keling is Unipolar with a torque of 304 oz.

I tend towards a complete new set. For using with step/dir software; Turbocnc.

If you use our KL-4030 driver, you can get 425 oz-in torque. if you use the other manufacture unipolar driver it is only 304 oz-in for thsi motor. You may conside a bipolar driver

What would be the right solution for the connection motor - spindle?
A straight forward coupling or 2 toothed wheels and belt?
