Lathe spindle size, maybe a g0602

    Hi,

I'm in the process of gathering parts to start my cnc lathe build. I am looking for a spindle that has a 1" bore and was considering the spindle off of the grizzly g0602. Does anyone have the dimensions on this spindle? The overall length, the length from bearing journal to bearing journal, diameter of bearing journal, etc? Also does anyone have the dimensions of the headstock, length, width, and height?

Is there another spindle to consider that would be relatively easy to obtain and would have at least a 1" bore?

    Thanks again.

If you have your own design in mind, you may be shocked to find out how much those individual parts will cost from Grizzly or other suppliers. You would be better off to search E-Bay for a complete used lathe and strip it down for its parts- you'll be surprised how those little components will add up in cost, and your donor lathe will supply you with a lot.

Well all I really need is a spindle and maybe the headstock as well. The spindle for the g0602 is $105 from grizzly and the headstock is $228 but I cannot find any dimensions on either one.

Do any of the components include the bearings? Those things can be very costly. I'm currently building a small spindle with 25 mm ID angular contact bearings. They are P4 (ABEC 7), 25 deg. contact angle, heavy preload, sealed bearings at near $400/pair.

Be sure you match the bearing specs to what you actually need in your spindle. That extra level of precision can be extra expensive.

No they don't come with bearings. Yeah you are correct, I did not want to use any of the "stock" bearings anyway. I was going to source my own bearings for it using higher quality.
