    Default Light metal milling machine

Hi DIYers, after the last build has been finished with great success. I have a long break and confidently start on a new project.
    Here is my design:

    Travel: XYZ: 400x300x300mm
    Weight: 1 ton.
    4 Axis.
    Parts on hand:

    25mm rolled linear guides (Schneeberger)
25mm diameter double nut ball screws
    CT3 steel from my neighbourd.
    NT30 spindle
    Alpha step ASD20A-C + ASM911AC

    Here we go:

    Assembly:

    The second day:

    The third day:

    It's 340 kg now.
    Thanks for reading.

    Hi asuratman,

Here is the 3D file of this machine. I hope that you can read it with Inventor 2014.

    The dimension of blocks are:
    Machine based: 450x900x150mm.
    Y axis: 620x240x100mm.
    Z axis: 995x240x170mm.
    30mm thickness steel.

For x axis, the T slot table is 300x600x70mm.

That's looking good; it should be up to the task of light-duty metal milling. Have you noticed any warping in the steel from welding?

I didn't see any wrapping from my last build. It's archived 0.005mm of tolerance for all xyz axis travel.
I use two soldering-irons on both hand and welding both welding side at the same time with 30mm weld beads. Then switch to other side of the part and do the same. It makes the parts look dirty (the weld beads are not equal) but It can prevent wrapping a little bit. It was 41 Celsius while I was welding the parts.

It costs me about $700 for all of these.

I have no clue what to click to download, everything is on Vietnamese...
But the machine looks really good and with that thickness of material I wouldn't say "light metal milling". I am doing light metal milling in my steel beam router.

Hi, just pay attention to the right top corner of your browser and look for Vietnamese Flag icon. The language is there. I "guess" it can mill carbon steel nicely with light step over.
My last build travel is 180x300x300mm (YXZ) and weight around 750kg. It's mainly used for brass milling parts but can cut steel pretty well.

I think the industrial milling machines at this size will be much heavier than this machine. So It should be light compared to them.
My next DIY project is a mix of concrete and metal to reduce the cost. It will be a heavy machine. 2->3 tons, three times heavier than this project, he he.

    I know, that's what's so cool!

I was at the steel store a couple weeks back and saw some really heavy walled tubing that had me thinking about this build.

Thanks for the updates! Looking forward to shots of work on the head!

Now I'm working on the DIY grinding machine. I need a larger size to ground XYZ base before I put the rails and ball screws on.
Here is the X axis for the based. Just use what I can get from a scrap yard near my house:
