Deepgroove1.com
I wanted to alert the members of this forum to beware of purchasing anything from this website, http://www.deepgroove1.com. This man sold me a controller that turned out to be used and did not work. I returned the machine to him and now I can't seem to get my money back. He owes me $295.00 and claims he has no money from which to provide my refund. Anyone who operates a business like this should expect that customers will want a refund from time to time and should have ample funds in the bank to handle such refunds. Now I'm going through a big hassle trying to get my money back. He wants to send me another machine but under these circumstances, I don't want to do business with him and just want my money back. Buyer beware of deepgroove1.

He's who I bought my first machine from. I think I got maybe three workable parts off of it, after two years.

I almost never post to forums, but I feel that this case merits an exception. I bought a Taig mill based system, which includes the controller and motors from deepgroove1.com last week, and after I ordered it I found this posting. Needless to say I was more than a little worried. However, after receiving the machine and interacting with Paul through email over the course of the last week, I am very happy that I didn't find this thread before I placed my order. All of the components are extremely well built and have worked flawlessly. Paul has responded to every email within an hour or two (even on weekends) and has been very helpful. In addition, after placing my order Paul wrote me and told me that Taig was having a special this month and was including a set of collets, a vise, and a couple of end mills with each mill. I had order a set of collets and a vise with my machine so he refunded me the cost of those items. I had no idea about the special, and would have never known, but Paul made the extra effort and refunded over $100 on his own accord. I do not know what happened in the case of the other two people who have posted to this thread, but I wanted to let everyone know about the very positive experience that I have had with both the machine and the purchasing experience. I have already cut 5 copies of two different parts and they are perfect. Also, I almost forgot - I needed the machine by the end of the week and I placed the order on Sunday. Everything was shipped on Monday, I received the mill on Wednesday and the controller and motors on Friday; all with no additional shipping or handling charges.

I'm sorry for what I hear
I bought my machine from Deepgroove1.com (not ebay). I was very nervous as $US2445 is roughly a quarter of my meager grad student budget.
The mill was b/o and it took some 2 weeks to get to him. But once he got it, it was in my hands 3 days after (I live in canada, quite impressive). I had to clear customs myself, no big deal.
for the machine,

I had heard these same negative remarks about Deep Groove 1 on this forum and I was concerned as this company was recommended to me by a good friend.
This friend of mine bought his CNC Tag from Deepgroove 1 last year and he has had nothing but good to say. Even the tech support was great. He had bought a modem cable instead of a straight parallel cable and couldn't get things to work. Paul actually called him long distance (Canada) and together they worked out what had happened and resolved the problem. My friend's experience was what helped me make up my mind as to whom I would do business with.
Well last week I bought everything I needed to get my Taig mill up and running as well as build my controller. I bought everything from Paul. A Gecko G540, Mach3, 4 motors, power supply, an MPG2 Pendant and all of the cables and additional paraphernalia that I needed to get CNC functional. Other than a bit of a wait to get some of the parts in such as the Sherline rotary table, Paul shipped everything I ordered and threw in some extra goodies I guess because he knew I would need them but I hadn't thought to order them. Also his pricing was better than everywhere else by at least 10%.
I received all of my goodies last week and I just finished building my controller and have my mill all wired and working and I just need to get my limit and home switches installed as well as the pendant.
I have nothing bad to say about this company or about Paul. He was all business and I was pleased with the entire experience. This CNC stuff is all new to me and I was a little nervous about spending $1700 for something I would essentially need to be self taught. Paul was reassuring and even suggested that I could build my own controller instead of spending extra money for a completed one. I took his advise and built my own, saved some money and had fun doing it. Thanks Paul. I will definitely buy from him again and have no hesitation recommending him to my friends.

BTW, I don't think I could have found a better controller than the one I built myself shown below.

I just want to update my previous comments with some recent problems with Deepgroove 1. As much as buying the parts from him was easy and shipping a non issue...
just try to get help if you need it.
In so many words, I was told to go find someone else to help me as it's not worth his time to help since he doesn't make enough profit to be worth his while. I have come to the conclusion that over the past six or seven emails with Deepgroove 1 that this is not a person you would want to deal with if you are the least bit inexperienced. So to all you newbies wanting to buy a system, please spare yourself the aggrevation and find a company that enjoys supporting its customer base. Even if you don't make money helping your customers, its just plain good for business. Thats how I've run my own business for the past 20 years and thats why I'm still in business.
P.S. I always wondered why he didn't list a telephone number on his web page. Now I know why.

I have been trying to buy from him for over a week and finally gave up. Not willing to answer any questions, sends me a invoice that belongs to someone else, won't give up his phone # or call me, sends one word responses, etc. Ask a question and the best answer you will get is, yes, no, sure, let me check, no problem.... very frustrating.

We originally purchased a used deepgroove1 mill on ebay.
The controller started having trouble and contacted deepgroove1 directly rather then post a question on cnc zone. Deepgroove1 helped use resolve the software setup issues and helped tune the machine. A year passed by and the xylotex control failed. We needed to get the machine up and going.
OH by the way via phone and we havn't purchased anthing from him at this point!!!
Ask for his phone number and he gives it to you!!
Once again we contacted deepgroove1 and he had a gecko based controller shipped the next day. We followed the setup info on his website and we were making parts again. Hats off to deepgroove1!

I waited MANY months to buy a mill, and i had plenty of time to shop around for one. I bought my taig from paul at deepgroove, and have not had any problems with anything he sent me. He has plenty of info on his site to help with setup of the mill, and mach3, including video instructions. I looked at all the material he had related to setup and felt like a pro by time the machine arrived. It was up and running in about two hours. I got the 4 axis package with the triunion table. It came with a gecko g540 controller, and 40,000 step / inch steppers.
My first shot at thread milling worked PERFECTLY. Having only made the engraving templates that came with mach3, and a simple riser block, I couldn't believe i did it the first try. After all, it was m21x0.75 threads, and i dont know what that means! I'm going to have at least 1 finished part on my paint ball gun, in my game 16 days away. I have had no regrets buying from deepgroove, even though I could have bought a new truck instead.

Taig Mill by Deepgroove
I am a first time cnc mill user and buyer. I bought my unit from Paul at deepgroove because I liked his prices and help instructions that he has posted on his web page.
It sounds like I am dealing with a different Paul than some of the other posters.
Paul has replied to everyone of my emails in record time. I have been pleasantly surprised at how quickly I received a reply email, outlining what I should do.
Paul's answers have always been correct and very easy for a beginner like myself to follow.
I finally made my first piece yesterday and was very happy with the results at my first attempt. The trunnion table is a super feature and worked flawlessly as did the mill.
All I can say is that for my first CNC mill it has surpassed my expectation given it size and price.
Hope to use this site a lot

Hi Chieffy,
Welcome to the Zone. I'm sure I speak for most of us when I say please start a new thread and show some pics (possibly video) of your work with the trunnion table. Never used one of these so I'd very interested to see more of the kind of parts you're doing with this.
So many times we get first posters sharing their great stories of their deepgroove mills, and then they just disappear after 1 post....
May I ask what software you're using to program the trunnion? Quite an undertaking for your first mill. I'm so impressed with guys that jump in head first and learn so quickly as you are.
Thanks for sharing the info-
Dave
