Hello, I just had to put to sleep my pet wiener dog "Lucky" and buried him about 20 feet from my shop front door. I'm thinking about making him a headstone out of either wood or corian and am thinking about carving him using this photo carve software. Can anyone tell me how easy it works? Can I hire some one to do this one time thing since I'd probably would not do it again. I have access to plenty of CNC machines and the one in my shop uses a FANUC OM controller with a router attachement I made for high speed work. I have attached a picture I would like to carve for you opinion on how well it might work. I have a High res of the same picture but just uploaded a resized pictures for speed of transfer. It has been really tough losing him and think this would be a good thing to do. Thanks, Jeff Last edited by woodzy; 07-22-2007 at 10:49 PM. |

| woodzy, Sorry for your loss. We had to put down my wifes (its was the whole families, but my wife had the real emotional tie) 16yr old daschund last year. When the dog licked my wifes face as it was getting the shot my heart strings were really tugged. We adopted a 6yr old mix a few moths later that has us all captivated! But the doxy isn't forgotten.

| Jeff here is the gcode (tap) for a lithopane. it would need a 40 thou ball cutter. i know not everyone keeps one of those laying around but just in case. the pic size is apx 6 x 8 ...60ipm .04 ball.... cut depth .08...apx 2.5 hours to cut. stock would work great with a piece of glacier white corian .1 thick... As usual I can't attach any files...... send me a email and I'll send it to you. crfultz@gmail.com

| well, if you want it as an outdoor headstone type of thing a lithopane probably isn't the way to go, right? id go with something out of sealed wood, then wipe some stain into the carved image to reveal the pup, and then seal the whole thing. something like that you'll get it, take your time to get it just how you want it. ~Steve |

| Well, I worked on a headstone for Lucky. This was cut in Delrin using my CNC machine in my shop. I made an adapter to mount a Dewalt 3HP router to the head. The software I used takes a picture and makes a 3-D tool path. It took about 1 minute from the time I had the picture to generate the code. The machine took about 2 hours to cut it. Added some "TEXT" and paint and it is now at his final resting place just 20 feet from the shop door. Thanks for all the well wishes and help from everyone especially "dertsap". I started with this picture: (I had to remove the grout lines) ![]() ![]() |
