    new with PET-G Questions

    Hello,
I am a new forum member and have been researching vacuum forming. I have been wanting to get into it for a while now.
i finally bought some plastic and going to start experimenting. The first project is a helmet for a halloween costume. I have a good base for the back and its almost finished. I need to make the visor/face shield. I bought some .060" PET-G Vivak As i had read elsewhere that it was good for forming and stays mostly clear. Is it possible to use automotive paint on PET-G. For the mold i was going use a baseball helmet and plaster.
I was wondering if i can form this shape with just a regular shop vacuum or two? or would i need a vacuum pump setup? any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here is the face shield and helmet.

P.S. i was also wondering if i had to go to a vacuum pump setup if a venturi vacuum would have enough pressure to work. I know they can have up to 28"Hg.

A shop vac could easily do the face shield shape, but would never get the detail you need for the back part. Venturi pumps are strong, but verrrry slow and innefficient. It would take a 5 hp compressor to get the same flow as a 1/2 hp vac pump.
