Default new to thermoforming. need advice

    Good morning all,
I purchased a belovac C series machine. Having great difficulty in getting the abs ( both 1/4 and 1/8) to heat in a reasonable time. Could this be moisture? Do most of you have ovens to dry the abs?
    Thanks very much.

    Hi
Heating times vary due to thickness but its not necassarily due to moisture. Obvious signs of wet sheet is , at worst your surface will look like the surface of the moon ant best you will see an orange peel effect. This is caused by the moisture in the sheet boiling away and as every schoolboy knows that liquids turn to gas when heated and expand. The main issue when heating the sheet is keeping a uniform temerature over the entire sheet. Make sure there is no draught blowing across the sheet dissapating the heat , make sure the simerstats / thermostats are set correctly. Depening on how your heaters are arranged turn the center bank of heaters to 75 percent heat of those on the outside of the sheet as heat will accumulate in the center and you risk scorching the center of the sheet or even melting through it. As the machine warms up fully you will have to adjust the heating times as the day progresses. Any cold (Or Cooler ) parts of the machine will act as a heat sink robbing the heat that you need to get the sheet up to moulding temerature.

Drying cupboards are essential for perfect mouldings you are quite right about that.

I hope this helps you out.

    Syd
