Default DB25 parallel port data direction

    Hi everyone.

Hope you will share your knowledge with me regarding data transfer between computer parallel port and cnc BOB parallel port.

My BOB assigned pin numbers are:
    2,3,4,5,6,7,8 & 9 which are outputs.
    10,11,12,13 & 15 are inputs.

    Questions:
    1) Does output mean signals from Computer to BOB.
    2) Does input mean signals from BOB to Computer.
    3) I have measured the output signal which were 0.02V for cw & 5V ccw. However will input volts be the same and how do I measure do it. What should voltage be.
    4) Can I use a USB to DB25 cable to operate cnc machine.

    Thank you
    Gasant

    1. Yes, for example, pin 2 might be used as an 'output' for the step or direction line to the BOB and subsequently to a driver
    2. Yes, for example a probe input
    3. Generally, you will use a 'pull up' or 'pull down' resistor on the input pin. if it is a pull up, the input will read 5V and when shorted to ground, 0V
    4. Many people have tried and to the best of my knowledge, none have succeeded.

I thank you Bubba for info.
I will try to test input signal by following step no. 3
