    Default Type of Aluminum??

I got a choice of Al alloys to purchase for some tubes that I will insert my linear bearings into. I plan to do some machining of the stock.
    My choice is between 2011 T3 or 6061 (T6?).
    I know nothing about 2011.
    Is 2011 easily machined?
Is it suitable without heat treatment?
The 2011 is half the price of the 6061.
Is heat treating within my means in my garage with no special techniques?
Should I just go with the 6061 and not worry about it?
My inquiring mind wants to know.
    Thanks for your input.

    Thanks Hardmill,

I started thinking about it and figured out that it was too much work for a couple of little tubes if nothing else.
I am going to have to read up on different types of Al. Just because I am interested.

    Default Ally

You might consider 6082T6 or 7075 as well. Both are aircraft grade. The 6082 anodise relatavely well, the 7075 also allthought i have never anodised something i made from 7075.
I use the 6082 for the fly fishing reels i manufacture....
