Bob CAD/CAM, with some haggling LOLOL....
I'm looking for a Cad/Cam package that is capable of doing mill turn work (sub spindle + Y + live tooling).
Non commercial licence (R&D + student demos..etc)
We already have a high end package, but i'm looking for something I can run on my laptop and bring too and from work. Is there anything on the market that is affordable (less than say $1000). I would be paying for this myself.

Fusion 360 may work, full featured professional CAD/CAM software. Not sure how many axes they are supporting at this time, they keep adding features. Free to hobbyists, students, and startups.
I had a brief look at Fusion 360, it's lathe support seems to be poor at this time and I hate the idea of having models / programs on the cloud.
I will have a look at Bobcad/cam,
There website indicates that they support Mill-Turn

Just googled some of the prices, I think I'm going to forget this idea.
If you're a student (ie you have a student ID of pretty much any kind), PTC will do a ridiculously cheap copy of Creo Parametric including the NC Machining module which supports mill-turn centres and stuff like that. About USD15k a seat loaded up like that for the full version and AFAIK a few hundred bucks or less for students. Only gotcha is that you can't load anything that was saved in the student version on a full licence install.
If you are an Student i am sure that all CAD cam vendors will help you have a look at bobcad v29 i am happy with it
