Ouch !...I think i just fried the regulator...please i need some help on how to verify if it's realy fried or not.
Thanks !

Thanks for the reply Henrik !
Ladies & gentlemen, this is a cnc2 world premiere
Here are some pics of my progress & i want to add that I'll keep the copyright on the anti-esd work station design
TO DO: voltage test+MosFET + ICs installation.
The little peace of pcb is for the regulated 12V PSU (unfinished).
Comments are much apreciated.
Thanks !

Place it on the table, metal tab down, legs towards you. Connect the negative (GND) of your rectified DC to the middle leg and the positive to the left leg. Now measure the voltage between the center and the right leg.
There's nothing ! so i assume it's fried & i'll go get another one.
The rectifier is rated for 4A & i've wired a 5A fuse (in series)on the AC input from the transformer is it ok for the rating ?
Edit:***
I replaced the regulator & it's working![]()
transformer AC output is between 10.5V & 10.7V rectifier DC output is around 15V (15.5V no load, without regulator) & regulated DC is at 11.75V rarely jumping to 11.76V All these are at no load.
En route for the voltage test of the board.
Well, i've done that voltage test without ICs the power LED gets on but the readings are funny for example i've ~11.4VDC at pin#5 of a IR2184 IC base & nothing at pin1&2Any help ?

Thanks for the help !

Help ! it seems that no one saw that i edited the previous post.
The 5V is ok from the regulator but i have around 3.3V at D19 instead of 0V accoreding to the voltage check...the voltages on the 4013 are & MAX232 are different from the voltage check...i don't understand what happends because i went really slow on the assembly & checked each part before i install it
I didn't want to install the UHU chip for testing as it could be fried easily & would take time to replace.
Thanks !

Here's the Google translation from german to english of the voltage check diagram.
in englishspannungen gem mit gesteckter schnittstelle sonst etwas hoher
bei 5v fehler strombegrenzung
bei 5v fehler uhu (schleppF.usw)Note: it seems to me these numbers are not for a working board, voltages in accordance with the usual interface somewhat ambitious high
5v errors in current limiting
at 5v errors uhu (schleppF.usw)
PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG !
Thanks !

No one replied, so, i dared the devil and...
IT BOOTED& appeared in the terminal at the first try
, very neat, very "glorifying"...I'm HAPPY!!!
Thanks to EVERYONEwho's involved in this success & helped me to make it happen. CNCAdmin, thanks for the Zone!
Special Thanks go to the "Fantastic Four": (by alphabetical order)
Henrik, Irfan, Kreutz & Uli Huber.
NO, this is not the end of the movie...it is to be continued...
Thanks !

Congratulations! Feels good, doesn't it?
Now continue with checking the encoder. Without connecting the motor power supply to the board, turn the motor shaft. After a while the Error LED should turn on indicating following error.
Then start with a low motor voltage, put a 60-100W light bulb in series with the supply, before the drive - just for safety. Turn on the 12V supply THEN turn on the motor supply, try to deflect the motor shaft but be carfull, it might run away as soon as you touch it. If that happens reverse the motorcables. Then proceed with tuning the PID parameters. As you raise the motor supply voltage and remove the light bulb ( if used ) you'll need to retune the PID parameters.
Keep it up!
/Henrik.
see - if you don't try no results - i burned like 7 HP UHU's before I got em right!
you always learn it the hard way!
Thanks Henrik !
Oooyeah !!! it feels even better than scoring 94.6% at a networking exam.Feels good, doesn't it?
I'm facing a little problem for mounting the encoder, because there's no hole on the motor...the good news is that the rear motor's plate is made of a tough plastic (maybe Bakélite) so i'll have to find out a way to precisely drill two holes for the 2.95mm screws...no threading should be needed.
The motor is a little Matsushi'ta 20VDC geared NEMA23 that i got from a refurbished copier, it had a tachometer on the rear & runs at around 175mA no load(before i fry the fuse of my meter by braking the shaft)
For the motor PSU i was going to use a car battery charger(6V & 12V@10A or 24V @5A) + 22000MFD 50V capacitor...just for tests, before i wind a second coil on the transformer & build the final PSU) i don't thinnk i'll need the light bulb with such numbers.
What do you think ?
Is there any problem with the bettery charger & the 22000MFD cap ? (high inrush currrent or things alike that can fry something)
PS:the IRFP260N MosFETs are yet to be installed...i hope i'll find bigger motors.
Thanks !
cnc2.
Thanks Irfan !
Wow man, burned 7 HP UHU's, i can tell that you are tenacious...everything is good to reach a goal !
As i'm still a student, i won't be able to go through too pricey failures...the parents wouldn't understand why i'm smoking their money in electronics while i'm a student in the computing field.so i do my best to keep it as low in cost as i can.
Thanks !

So far so good, assembled the encoder, connected it to the board, switched on the logic PSU, the board booted & apeared on the terminal program...i turned the motor shaft...nothing ! turned it faster no red LED...i started to doubt, when i saw that only the MAX232 & UHU chip were installed... i felt dumb& switched everything off to install the remaining IC's ...i re-ran the test & the red LED went on after i turned the shaft...i felt better!
I'll install the FET's & the big caps+the IR2184 & test the board with motor PSU.
When i turned the shaft, there was no wave form on the terminal program, is that normal ? (i'm running the win32 terminal, it's a beta version)
Thanks !
