got 2 different computers with unigraphics NX5 on them. . when file is save on one and transfered to 2nd computer by usb flash drive the prt file will not open, but if file saved as a STEP file it will open on 2nd computer . the error message is something like no selecta template found. of course i search help for selecta template and did not find anything. . trouble is if i create manufacturing cnc toolpaths they usually do not get saved with a STEP file only the solid geometry. . the biggest problem i find with unigraphics is it is often customized so much as to be radically different on 2 different computers (more than just startup "role" used. after all a NX5 part file should be able to open on any computer with NX5, at least one would think that. i have heard of templates when creating a new file but not for opening a file. |

| It sounds like you are trying to save the file as something different than a prt file. Did you try prt? If you save a file using a type other than prt you will not have any model parametrics or machining. Unless you are trying to open a file in another system (catia, pro-e, etc-) you should save your parts as NX prt files. Different roles should have nothing to do with problems opening files.

found out NX5 has a thing called a stand alone part and who it is for "anybody" or "administrator". . on one computer created a stand alone file for anybody and on 2nd computer it opened but gave an error message. . Unigraphics NX5 is often used with Teamcenter for file storage and control. . secura template not found error message is something about a Teamcenter NX5 file being opened on a computer not setup at all for Teamcenter. |

| Ah, that makes sense now. You should speak with your cad systems person about it and perhaps make some changes depending on who need access to which files.

could not find schema template error try to open a Unigraphics NX5 part. . turns out in UGII folder there is a schema folder full of templates? . it required know the exact error message and searching for "schema" and "template" turns out there are many, many templates but fewer schema folders. . copied schema folders files to computer that could not find schema template and now file opens ok. . i think other computer was never updated. Also installing Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 and the help files now open where before i got a lot of errors. |
