    Default New UC300ETH breakout board.

CNC Room just told me they are having their prototype PCB's made for their new UB1 breakout board.
It'll have similar specs to the MB2, but the UC300ETH will plug right into the board, so no 5LPT motherboard or ribbon cables required.

-15mm taller than MB2. but same width.
    - 2 none-isolated analog input, 5v and 10v tolerant select able .
    - 2 isolated analog outputs. they are 2 PWM channels of UC300ETH.
    - 3 relays.
    - 8 inputs safety circuit.
    - There are 5V isolated inputs for TTL device as well. The users can hook up low voltage MPG.
    - All 5 LPT ports and pins accessible. 3 isolated ports, same as MB2. 2 non-isolate ports, as extended header .

And now this board became hell lot more tempting! Have been looking at uc300eth for a while

    This is interesting.
I just received my MB2 today with the intention of doing as you did with a UC300 and making up a small adapter plate with acrylic.
This will make a much better overall solution so I will definetley be buying one of these once they are available.

Thankfully I have an ESS which I can drop onto the MB2 later so that it doesn't go to waste.

Lightbulb Re: UB1 UC300ETH breakout board.

    Hi friends,

Firstly, thank you to Gerry who inspires me to make a good looking breakout board for UCCNC software and its UC300ETH.

I received 20 pieces of prototype PCB back from the manufacturer 2 days ago. Today, I’ve managed to have my first UB1 prototype. I spent almost a whole day to setup my PNP (pick n place) machine and made a board as shown in the attached pictures.

Next few days I will test UB1 board and hope that I wouldn’t find any mistake. The following is the areas I want to test.

    • Noise generating and immunity.
    • Heat dissipation
    • Current consumption on DC2DC converter.
    • Functional in various circuits.

    Thanks

Looking good this will be a good pick foe me when doing the change to uc300eth and uccnc.. just have to get the incime for it first (i mainly let the machine pay for itself)

Dang it! I just bought the MB2-UC300ETH-5LPT setup for my new machine. This looks so much better. Does the UB1 have the same footprint? I see the width is the same. Is the length the same? Just wondering if it would drop in to the same mounting holes as the MB2.

The 3rd pic shows both the UB1 and MB2.
The UB1 is a little larger.

I think when he said 15mm taller, he meant longer (or wider, depending on how you look at it.)

Just wanted to highlight a couple of things on this thread.

Firstly, thanks to Gerry for linking to the MB2 on his site, I was unaware of these products before.
I have mine sat in front of me now and I am very pleased with it.
I had been planning on another CSMIO for my new build but the MB2 delivers the main advantages of the CSMIO namely differential line drivers and 24v capable I/O for a fraction of the cost.

Secondly I'd like to thank Vrasak for so quickly jumping on the opportunity of producing a board customized for the UC300eth. I will buy one as soon as they are available and report back with my experiences.

Lastly I'd like to point out what a neat and professional board the MB2 is. I've had a number of controllers and breakout boards over the years and with the exception of the CSMIO (very high cost and only mach3/4 support) the MB2 is miles ahead of all the others in terms of build quality, layout and features. Real value for money.

Yes, it really is a fantastic board.

I was looking for a 24V breakout board, when someone sent me a link to the MB2. I'd never seen it before, like most people.
As you say, the quality is very high, loads of features, and extremely easy to use. The fact that it's cheaper than anything else is icing on the cake.

Weerasak told me the UB1 has twice the components of the MB2, so the price will be higher. But I'm sure it will still be a bargain.

Don't suppose their is a beta PDF manual we can download to learn its' features. I'm quite interested in this board.

At the moment I've got several of Homann Designs breakout boards, but they don't have opto isolation and having several of them around my UC300-ETH (one for each port !!!) really takes up a lot of board space and the wiring looks rather messy. Apart from that they are a highly configurable board.

And I had to make my own mini opto-isolation boards too. So this new UB1 board solves all these issues in one hit.

No, there's no manual yet. He mentioned he might need some help with the manual, as he doesn't speak English well.

But, I think that it's very similar to the MB2, feature wise.
Looking at the pics, the main difference is the addition of two analog inputs.
The UB1 has two analog outputs vs one on the MB2.
The UB1 has 3 relays vs two on the MB2. But looking at the pic, it looks like the relays are all normally open, where on the MB2 they can be NO or NC.

Other than that, it should be mostly the same as the MB2.

Post Re: New UC300ETH breakout board.

    Hello,

I’ve been busy on testing and making change to the new version of UB1. After sending a new version to PCB manufacturer. Now I have time to shoot video and pictures for updating you guys.

The video will show you various parts of the board, the testing environment. The attach pictures, in the red circle shows a mistake of wrong pin mapping. The orange circle is a stealing Y401 for ordinary analog output.

I traced a hundred of signals from UC300ETH that communicate with 5LPT mother board, but missed out one signal. The UB1 will be 100% pin out compatible with 5LPT mother board except PWM analog frequency.

The UB1 borrows opto isolated analog circuit from MB2 which runs PWM at 1 khz, but 5LPT analog circuit runs at 48khz. The analog circuit of UB1 acts as potentiometer and need to consume small amount of power because some VFD drives supply small amount of power for potentiometer.

Solving incompatible problem, Balazs will help me by adding an identifier for UB1 board. Next time when UC300ETH boot up, it will sense this identifier and change the PWM frequency that suitable for UB1 board.

I expected that to have UB1 board finished for sales within 3 weeks.

    Thank you,
    Weerasak
PS. Somehow I lost an email from the New Zealander during my busy days. Please re- email me again.

    Hi Weerasak

The board looks great. I mentioned on the UCCNC page that controlling 12v and 24v solenoid coils on air valves have consistently caused noise issues for me on a variety of boards. Any chance of you testing the board with a couple of solenoids?

    Thanks
    Derek
