I think Sean has showed this a couple times too.
Ok....now I'm pissed. My file never comes in on the correct axes. How did you do that?
EDIT: Ok...I see what you did there.......that makes things much clearer. And yes, it would need 5 different tools. One face, two contouring, one threading (ends), and the parting tool. Hmmm......interesting. Thanks for taking the time. EDIT

After playing with this for a while, I have a question.
Now I know there are thousands of ways to accomplish a task, but I would like to know the proper way to accomplish this task.
On the file that I posted here, the ends are threaded. They are left handed M6 x 1.
I would like to know the best (proper) method to machine this part. This would be a great tutorial piece for most anything on a lathe. It has features that can only be cut with a left hand tool (or a groove tool). It has thread, and it has some angles. Ok it doesn't have any arcs, so it does leave out one item.
Could someone who is well versed in Bobcad do this?
I have played with it a lot, and can't really seem to find the best way to cut the part.

Hi,
Dose anyone know how to make an imported .STL file into a BobCad solid, so that I can add other solid shapes to it.
What I'm trying to do is this :-
I have a .STL file, it is a 3d model of a car, which I would like to machine foe fun.
I have loaded the file, and saved it as a BobCad file, I have then opened the new BobCad file and tried to add some, cylindrical pins to the wheels on the underside of the model, these are required for manufacturing purposes. I intend to machine the bottom half of the model first, then hold the model by these pins, so that I can machine the other sides of the model.
Any help in transforming other formats, into fully useable BobCad format would be welcome.
Maybe BobCad could put a free tutorial of how to do this with different formats on there web site, this would incourage people with other Cad programs that if they move to BobCad they can still use all there old files.
Thanks for any help anyone can give.

A big thank you,
That is a good tutorial, I needed that.

Your welcome Jos. Although I think it needs some help... I think that the contour created in that video should be broken in half, and there should be 2! Because you would actually need 2 features to cut the part... The second to change the tool orientation to cut that left side stuff. But I would expect a lathe guy to know this stuff. I am not much of a lathe guy!!! lol
Good luck!
