Turbocnc ini file

I have got a small cnc built that I have been working on for a few years now because Ive scrounged and poor boyed it together and its taken me a while to get it together. If it was not for this web site which is great I might add I would not have done it. its small but it works, now im on the software side of it and its a learning chalange in it self but with all the information here I know I can do it.

With that all said I have a question about Turbocnc that im using with a computer that runs at 330mz with 16meg of memory and has windows 98 on it so i can hold down f8 and go to dos where torbocnc runs. But my problem is that the turbocnc.ini file will not save the setup that i put into it such as my pin outs for step and direction and ect.I want to delete this file and start over but dont know how to do it would some one tell me how I should do it, when i go to edit and bring it up it says its only a read only file. a need to change that i know but what else. thanks in advance

Find the file in Win98 explorer, right click on it, and uncheck the box that says read only.

Also, after making changes and saving the file, don't forget to "reset ports" or the new settings will not take effect.

Also, you can manually edit the file in "notepad" if you know what you want the settings to be.

What version of TCNC are you running, seems I remember one that had a problem writing the file.

Thanks for the heads up on how to change the read only I went to my computer and found the file turbocnc.ini and right clicked on it and clicked on propertys and unchecked the box read only.Then i went to dos and brought up the section to setup my motors for,Step Increment,direction pin no.and step pin no. and changed those and it did save it. I shut down the program and restarted it and checked it and walla it was there. I had for got how to change the attrubutes of a file.So thank you guys for that information again now to figger out how to draw a circle,box, or what ever in acad or corel draw and then put it in ace to change it to a g-code file and it be at the right size. what a challenge
but very rewarding. if i could only visit some one that is close enough and watch them do some of these things it would help,cause im a hands on type of person..cheers

You might want to try the newest version 4.01 and Dave K has indicated we might see the newest version 4.1? shortly.

Hopefully you're further along on the learning curve now - just try some simple g-code commands to get the hang of "thinking in coordinates", and then follow the directions for ACE (or some other CAD/CAM program) and you'll be well along.

CNC machining is hard to pick up for a beginner, so don't get too frustrated.

Even when Im in town and doing errands, My mind is back home with my cnc mill. This is habit forming but what can I say
