    Tree 1050 spindle drive??

I have a Tree 1050 vmc and am seeing a spindle alarm as well as spindle not up to speed alarm when trying to to anything with the spindle. Upon powering up the machine I've noticed that the load meter spikes up to 200%. I have sent the spindle drive off two times and all i've managed to do is spend about 2500 dollars and rack up a bunch of shipping cost. The drive gives a pg alarm but the encoder seems to be functioning properly. If the spindle is rotated by hand the display on the drive counts like it should. If anyone has ever seen a problem like this please help me.
    thanks,
    Lee

I have this problem right now on a VMC1050-24 with DynaPath Delta 20. Hopefully I will have it diagnosed by Monday. It occurred on this machine right after the low-range belts broke. I replaced the belts, and cannot get the spindle to activate at all. It immediately gives the spindle alarm for overcurrent, even with the motor disconnected.

Got mine back going. Had to purchase a rebuilt drive and a new spindle motor fan. The spindle motor fan locked up, and the excessive heat in the motor seemed to have taken the drive out. Total cost was around $9K. Yaskawa offers a new spindle drive retrofit with their MTV drive, but it is about $5k more by the time you have it installed (required to get the retrofit) and takes a couple weeks to get them in. I didn't have the time to wait and plan on replacing the machine next year anyways.

I hope I'm about to get mine going??? I sure picked the wrong company to repair my drive. I got it back a second time last week and it was as dead as the first. I've got as much in shipping as the so called repairs. I've got them persuaded to give me a refund... (only half what i paid them to fix it). I have sent the top boards to another company and they are going to repair them and put them on a rebuilt drive and take my old drive as a core. they said I would have it next week. I'll keep everybody informed. If I get my partial refund I'll share my bad experience with you in more detail.

I use ZPS-CNC (probably the main US representatives of ZPS of the Czech Republic) for all my Yaskawa parts and repairs even though I am set up direct with Yaskawa. Call Tammy at ZPS, phone number 847-487-4353 extension 201 the next time you need something (you can even mention that I sent you - I buy stuff from them at least once a month - we run the crap out of our two VMC1050-24's). I have dealt with them for over 7 years now, and have had nothing but stellar service.

I finally got my machine up and running... I actually got the partial refund also. My terrible experience was with a company called Nyco systems in Rialto, California. They "repaired" my spindle drive 1st time and cashed the $2100.00 check I sent them before even getting my drive on its way back. Of course when I got it it wouldn't work. Same alarms same everything, it was like they didn't even touch it. Also they descided to built a wooden box made up of 2x4's to put the drive in for shipment, which added about $300 dollars to next day air shipment and atleast $150 to standard shipping. I contacted them about the sencond try at repair and shipped it back. After a week of not being able to talk to anyone Adam Nydem ("they head guy") told me they had found the problem and had parts on order. After another three days and not being to get ahold of Adam, I got to speak to the actual guy working on it which knew nothing of the "found problem" and told me it was "in Adams hands now". Before even getting it back I went ahead and searched for a backup plan. I contacted a guy at cncrepair.com named Jim. I recieved the drive back from Nyco and of course it was still dead as ever and immediatly sent it to cncrepair. Within 3 buisiness days he had my machine up and running! Oh yeah... I waited for Nyco's check to clear before writing this. In all my grief and waisted money I found out that Nyco Systems is ran out of a Garage at a residential address by doing a search on google maps. One more thing, they sent me $100 less than they said they would and told me it was because of next day air charges for the check... but UPS says it was billed to my account! I ended up getting back $1100.00 of the $2100.00 but i was lucky to get it I guess. Terrible deal but you have to live and learn... I wouldn't let them work on a flashlight...

    I run a 1050 with Yasnac control.
Mine had the same exact symptoms as you describe.
The culprit was the spindle encoder.
There are two- one for position, one for speed.
The part was 2000 bucks and took half a day for me to replace.

It seems as though there are a couple of things that can go wrong when getting the "spindle not up to speed" message.

    1) spindle encoder
    2) spindle motor fan
    3) Spindle Drive itself

My Yaskawa drive is in my Tree Journeyman 425. I have two and both have the same problem.

I'm considering sending both drives to ZPS in Chicago to be evaluated for $100.00 each. I have no lights coming on the front panel of the drives.

Just FYI, the J425 drive is totally different than the 1050's/840's. There is a fuse inside the front cover on the J425 drives, it poped is why there are no lights. You need to take the drive out and clean the fan unit and heat exchanger box. They get real bad on the J325/425 series. The fuse is available from electrical supply houses or Graingers/etc.

I kinda figured we checked the fuse but checked it again and it's still good.

I had the guys at Drives Warehouse suggest a WJ200-075LF as a replacement for $780 but feel I have to verify that the drive is the culprit first.
