Re: Buying used Kira VTC30
The "fingers" might be something related to the tool changer?
I would ask how much does it weigh? For a home shop you will want to be sure you have a pretty thick concrete floor.
I'm guessing that unit could weigh somewhere between 8 -12k Lbs.
What power requirements does it need?
Also, you might pay as much, if not more for the rigging / transport charges too.
Just a few things to consider, other than that it's a pretty nice deal for $1k if you have the means to repair it.

I asked about that and he said it was not it was related to the spindle. He just guessed tho as the spindle wasn't even starting up so it could be everything from the VFD to rusted motor due to long time without use ^^ Is it a risky buy? It's been a machine that was in use in a prison for the inmates before so it's not been under heavy use most likely.
It weight 2500kg. I have one spot where there is 15cm thick concrete with steel reinforcement inside and another with 25cm. It's a old farm building so we drive big tractors on the floor. Not to worried about it not holding up for it but it will be a PITA to move around.
This guy had a truck going past my place in not to long and he could prolly put in on that for not much cost. Problem is unloading it here and handling it. Really not sure how to attack that issue.
For power, it had a 32Amp 3phase 230V contact on it. He said he thought it was 25A requirement and I got a 25A fuse to my whole garage going from my house The stepper motors will pull same current all the time but the spindle is only pulling what it's using as a regular AC motor or is that also acting as a servo motor?

Should I be able to rotate the spindle by hand when not energized or is there a break on these usually? Today I’m driving out to have a look at it still a bit clueless on what to look for ^^
