Powering a Tree J325 in my garage

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone could tell me if I would be able to use a Tree Journeyman 325 off 220 power using a phase converter. The machine is 230v 3 phase, 60hz. The motor is about 3hp (but the specs say it will go to 5hp). If I can use 220 power, what do I need besides the phase converter?

thanks

When I used to work for the Tree distributor, we put quite a few J310's and J325's in garages with phase converters. The rotary's used to be the best, but I haven't kept up on them, so nowadays I don't know.

325 power

Yes you can use a rotary phase converter to power your j325. I bought mine from American rotary. They have really cheap prices (trust me I looked around alot) and their customer service is excellant. They have all you need to fire up your mill. I bought a 10HP phase converter with a electrical box for about $650. All you need is the phase converter package that comes with a 3phase motor sized according to your max HP, a converter box and some stranded copper wire that you can buy at Lowes. Good luck!

I got my phase converter from American rotary too. I bought a 7.5hp version and it works great with my J325!
I would like to figure out a way to connect multiple devices to it so I don't keep to keep switching the plugs. It could probably run both the mill and my 2hp lathe as long as I don't start them at the same time.

If you run an RPC, just make sure you power the control off the two utility legs. The motors can run off the manufactured leg, but the control will be happier if you run it on the utility. Then again, some RPCs are so well balanced that it doesn't matter.
