Scott, I forgot to mention that Madcam is in the early stages of 4 and 5 axis as well. It currently has automatic indexing in the 4th and user defined 5th axis, which I have not even tried since I don't have a 5th axis. I would like to see some degree of automation for the 5th axis and continous for the 4th this next year. I have not been given a date as to when that might take place, but I can wish anyway!

The Convention:

As far as my part is concerned, I am planned on teaching the subjects that I discussed above, mostly to the new people. I remember what a steep and painful learning curve it was, and would like to ease that pain for others.

This is not "Necessarily" my personal Convention, I was just gonna put on the classes if enough showed an interest.

If someone else wants to hold a swap meet then they need to organise it.

If there or other subjects people would like to see taught as they apply to Mach controlled Machines then step up, and put up, or shut up.....hehehehe.

I dont care one way or another if there are Vendors there, or swap meets or dancing girls, as long as they dont interfere with the primary reason,.....learning.

I will probably ask Art, and Brian, and perhaps mabey some well known in the community vendors that have products that a large percentage of mach users use. BUT, I know for a fact that Art and Brian are exteamly buizzy people, and it is very difficult and a pain in the butt for them to get away. I will probably ask them, but you the attendies should realize the above, and not be disappointed if they are unable.

Turmite:

IF I can get things together enough, I will try and get my 3 in 1 shoptask Machine down there, and I will make up some lathe parts and Mill parts from concept to piece, will probably cut them out of Machinable wax or foam to save time. Since my shoptask is small, I dont want to wait for it to cut it in metal. I willl be doing the CAD in Rhino, and the CAM in OneCNC for my stuff, but if you wish to show what your CAM can do, and you have a post processor for Mach3, you are welcome to post it to my machine (or your own machine if you bring one), and cut your part(s) from wax as well.

I would like to know how many attendies plan on bringing there, machines? Also include the power type you need, and space needed to show it off.

Scott

Timing of the Event,

First and Formost I wanted to stay far away from the Galesburg event which is a much larger event and one that I usually like to attend. That would give some point between (mabey Nov/Dec but that may be to fast), to Jan-Apr......

I will also say again, if ANYONE would like to help with the Proposed event, PLEASE step up. It would be good to have other teachers of other skills, People with event organizatioanal skills, etc.

I am doing all I can to secure the "Drill hall", discussed above, but there are NO gaureenties, I have turned in a formal request for its use. That request has to go up the Chain of command and then back down to me..........
If I do get approved, it will be a good price for the space "Free", and that is hard to beat.

There are many, many, many hotels in Knoxville area, from Rent by the Hour to Rent by the week.....
The reason East TN peopld are so fat is cause of all the Zillions of different resterants here.........hehehe

You can Email me, those that would like to help, and tell me what you want to do, this includes Vendors (please note if you plan on "raffling off" any thing), or contribiting to the event in some other way. Remove the "AT" and replace with "@"

Hi Scott,

I was on the ph with Joakim from Madcam today for two hrs. I recieved permission to give a seat of Madcam away ($1995) to some lucky attendee, assuming you can get this thing organized and I don't have to do anything but show up and demo the software! Nawwww I'm kidding, but honestly the way I use Mach I would be of little use to most people. I would be glad to use Madcam for some sample tool paths.

Yes I remember the learning curve quite well, and am still learning. The curve still isn't easy for me! I will be attending as many of your classes as I can.

I will also be contacting some other potential vendors for some freebies to give away. I am hoping Amy from T.E.A. shows up with a truck load of "samples" he he he.

let's see.....where is my list......

hehe
All of you guys (or gals) on here already get 10% off, but I'll see if I can talk the boss into something special if everything works out and I'm able to come out there.
If this takes off for you guys and we do come out we'll most likely set up something as un-intrusive as possible. (So we wouldn't bring anything that would require electricity) If we come we'd like to be seen as a resource as opposed to being in the way of what is trying to be accomplished, ie. learning. Plus, we've done so much business already with members of this forum it would be nice to actually meet a few of you!

Count me in. Folks live near the 81 - 40 split. Are you thinking on a Saturday / Sunday for this???

As a newbie, I would love to see a 4 axis machine in action there. The classes sound great. Maybe even get Rockcliff to participate.

Ok here is what I was thinking, and I would like some feedback.

I was gonna spread the classes across Friday, Saterday and Sunday, from 8a-7p, with a 1 hour lunch break.

cost would be $50.00 per person that would cover 3 days of classes (see schedule). Vendors would be $60.00 per Table you need.

Here is the suppossed class schedule:

Class Schedule (with 10 min breaks each hour)

Friday:
8a-10a Basic machine/Mach3 setup
10a-12a Screen designer 3 and 4
12-1p Lunch
1p-3p VB scripting
3p-5p **some one else’s stuff here or Q & A or touch on Flash Screens**
5p-7p VB Wizards

Saterday:
8a-10a Modus Serial and TCP setup
10a-12a Interfacing to ADC PLC's with Mach
12-1p Lunch
1p-3p Brains
3p-5p **some one else’s stuff here or or touch on Flash Screens Q & A**
5p-7p **some one else’s stuff here or or touch on Flash Screens Q & A**

Sunday:
8a-10a Panel building
10a-12a Motor tuning in Mach
12-1p Lunch
1p-3p CAD/CAM to Mach (I’ll be using OneCNC XR2 Mill and Lathe)
3p-5p **some one else’s stuff here or or touch on Flash Screens Q & A**
5p-7p **some one else’s stuff here or or touch on Flash Screens Q & A**

I would need to know in advance if you plan on brining a machine to show, or if you would like to teach a class. I will also need to know your power requirements. Also Email me if you DEFINATLY plan to attend so I can make logistical arrangements on my end.

I will be talking this weekend with the Army to see if there is any answer yet on my request for the Drill Hall.
Please email me at (replace the "at" with "@"):

The 3 day scheduling sounds pretty good. When (month/ day) do you think it will happen? I really would like to attend but I, like several others here I'm sure, need to plan to get away for a few days in order to make it. I would think early December might be a good time since that would be after the Thanksgiving holiday but before everything is in full swing Christmas mode and everyone is tighter for time and often money.

So far, So good. I Like the schedule and cost. Need to know what week end. I would vote for mid-January to end of February. Less people traveling and better hotel rates.

Hi Scott,

I too would vote for after the first of the year but for entirely different reasons. I sent you an email detailing, but basically I want to demo Madcam a plugin for Rhino and if the convention is late enough there is a good possibility I will be able to bring along a beta for a new cad/cam software.

Do you need anyone to give a class on how "not" to use Mach? That would be me!

Mike

Well after looking at the current responses, I am thinking perhaps around the end of Feb. This would give people time to recover and pay money to the Santa clause bill. Besides in general Feb is a slow month for most folks, and Feb sucks anyway.........hehehe

I still have to get an answer on the drill hall hopefully this weekend at my guard drill, I can get a clue as to where we are on the request for the building.

Perhaps a target weekend would be the last full Fri, Sat, Sunday

In Feb.
