    Spindle Door Latch

    Dear Tormach Owners and Friends,

We have switched to a new improved spindle door latch design. This design replaces the rotary knob latch that was standard on previous machines. The cam action rotary knob was known to work loose under heavy vibration. The new latch is an over center draw latch and will not have this problem.

A latch upgrade kit is also available for existing machines as P/N 31217, http://www.tormach.com/Product_PCNC_maint.html. The cost is $15 and can be used on all previous machines.

    With Regards,

    Andy Grevstad
    Applications Engineer, Tormach

Andy, there is no datasheet or instruction sheet on your website. Is the latch the large or small version? I'm trying to figure out whether it will cover the hole left by the cam knob (if indeed it's able to be installed in the same location). Thanks.

    Hi Randy:

I'll see if we can't post instructions on the site later this week. I know they are sent with the kit.

To answer your question - yes, the kit comes with a plastc plug to cover the circular hole left by the old latch style.

I just got the new latch kit today and there is a cover plug provided for the old latch hole. The new latch is mounted in a new position.

Just installed the new spindle door latch kit. Very nice. The new camover latch works way better and is way easier to use when making tool changes. The only thing I changed was to replace the six metric philips flat head screws and nuts with 4-40 philips flat head screws and nyloc nuts with the addition of flat washers. Otherwise I would have used aerobic Loctite medium (blue) threadlocker and flat washers to the metric screws. It was an easy installation drilling six 5/32" diameter holes in the sheet metal using the supplied template.

Andy and Don, thank you for the additional information. It looks like a good retrofit.
