Issues with Y axis

Hello all we have just bought a tormach and have been using it to some good results for the past few weeks, it has so far seeemed to be a good machine... Then...

Today the the Y axis sounded like it was jamming (like just allowing barkes on a car to slip), following a bit of investigation it appears that it may be the stepper controler, has anyone else had any experience of similar problems... I have contacted Tormach so will see what support we can get just need to get cutting metal quickly again as we have a deadline looming...

Any help would be appreciated...

I had some problems with the X-axis on my mill - it would lose steps once in a while and then would fail to move at all in one direction but be fine in the other. Replacing the stepper motor driver resolved the problem.

To test swap your Y-axis driver with X and see if the problem moves to the X-axis.

It seems that it was the controller, as I posted the question we were trying the use of the controller that we had for our fourth axis and it seemed to have solved the problem.

I will have to get on to tormach about this....

I've had the same problem with two of my boards. Tormach was great about getting me replacements quickly. Unfortunately I'm still working with them to determine the root source of the problem.

Don't worry, your not alone. I too have been missing steps with the Y axis, up to .040 depending on the length of my program, the longer the program the more steps I lose. I have not yet found the solution (been about 1.5 yrs now) it's a shame cause I kinda like the machine. Made in china.
