    Sound deadener

Here's a possible tip for reducing the noise that results from the stand resonating.

There are several sound deadening fabrics available at a fairly steep price.

I've stuck on a layer of ice and water shield (designed for roofs) under the drip tray, inside all the doors and all along the back of the shield. This has made a significant difference in reducing the hum/ring/din/echo that was coming from the machine trays.

I also added open cell (the softer stuff) weather strip foam to all doors (including the spindle). This removed the vibration ring" from them. Basically with the machine cutting I went and pushed on all panels and if there was a metallic banging or buzzing I added some foam

The ice and water stuff comes in a huge roll for about $60 and is self adhesive on the backside. I wiped the machine down with wax and grease remover and made sure the shop was warmer than normal and it stuck like you know what to a blanket

I spent the last two of days running a "rush" set of parts and I can say that it makes a difference.

i have worked with some waterproofing membrane called bituthene (sp?) that looked like it would make good sound deadening material. i am guessing that is similar to what you are using. my machine has not been noisy enough for me to worry about it yet.

Terry Mayhugh has used Dynamat (car trunk sound deadener for the ultra high power bass crowd) and seems to have been pleased with it. Anybody else tried that?

Dynamat is an excellent sound deadened, the only downside is the cost,
Their door kit (for cars) is 4 pieces 12" x 36" for $100.00. I figured it out and to use their better product (not the top of the line or the bottom) it was gonna be almost $600 to cover the back, under the two wings and inside the three doors.
I have no doubt it the stuff works, I used it on my vette, just not sure if it would work that much better on the machine

McMaster Carr sells a similar product, starting at about $1.35/sq. ft.

Search their website for "Sound and Vibration Damping Sheets."

McMaster used to be great until they started cost-accounting and us poor-frost bitten Canadians were pulled from their ship-to lists
Sounds like it would be good stuff also, I'd like to get that blanket stuff they have and hang it on the wall behind the machine (which has my living room on the other side of) Bet my wife would like it too.

But seriously, I got the letter from them a couple of years ago, no longer shipping to Canadian destinations with the exception of certain large and long term customers. Took along time to re-source stuff.
