    Hello Fellow Tormachers, Tormachians and Tormacquis?

    Hello everyone,

    My name is Brian, I am a student at the University of Iowa and new to CNC zone. My passion is really building/machining parts and not sitting at a desk all day (I've successfully done this for a decade on the university's dime . I make YouTube videos in collaboration with Tormach. All my videos use the PcNc 770. My channel is Brian J's Machining & Technology Videos - YouTube

    I am always looking for more creative projects. So if anyone has ideas for videos shoot me a line. These could be anything from something you have always wanted to try but never had the time/resources. At the university we have mills, lathes, edm, waterjet, welders, casting materials, rapid prototyping, electronics, cad/cam software, etc. Or maybe a topic you have always wanted to see a tutorial for.

    Just watched all your videos. Really outstanding job. I found all of them to be interesting and useful. Great work!

    On another note... Man what I would have given to have had access to that kind of equipment going to school. You're making great use of it.

    Hi Brian j. Thank you Brian J, It was your circuit board video that impressed my customers so much they bought my 1100 series 3 Tormach for me, to do their work. That video was so cool. What I would like is a mico switch cycle start for the Tormach. Something remote like the E-Stop. For my Auto Material Loader. The AML works like a machine gun, ejects the part, air blast, then loads a new part, a gravity fed clip for the parts, air cylinder to operate the feed bolt and air operated vice. When the vice closes it would hit the micro switch and vola cycle start. I spring loaded the trip dogs on a horizontal mill, so the table would keep power feeding up and down. It was all wired into the machines 110v mag switches to a garage door opener, for remote shut down for safety. Now I want to put this AML on the 1100, but I dont want to have to keep hitting start every time.

    Glad you liked the videos, and yes, I consider myself very lucky with my research job having access to all the fun equipment. Surprisingly the equipment gets used very little (but it is good for me). I should have a new video up later today, so stay tuned...haha

    Joe,

    What you are doing sounds pretty awesome. I am currently working on a video for a robot to load and unload parts. It uses a 4 photo isolator/4 relay output board to do a handshake between the robot and Mach 3 software. Basically, its a handshake between the robot and mill to make sure no collisions happen, waiting for a pin to go high/low on the serial port. It was done by writing macros in Mach 3 I believe.

    I would love to see your setup, sounds very cool.

    Hi Brian,

    How about threadmilling a 1-1/2" NPT fitting (female)? I've got a couple of of those to do this weekend.

    I haven't done a tapered thread in a while. I use a lathe to do them....haha, but I can see what I can do. If you have to do a few this weekend, give me some pointers.

    I'll be using a carbide thread mill from MariTool and SprutCAM to generate the G-code, or maybe hand code it. G-Wizard will provide the thread specs, I think, and there is a Tormach tutorial on thread milling with SprutCAM that should be helpful. Maybe it will clear to me when I get started, but I'm not sure at present at how to specify the tool path with respect to X-Y origin and tool diameter, since bot the hole and the threadmill are tapered.

    The material being threaded is CPVC and I have some PVC sscrap to practice with.
