The PDB has a bendable cable tray that protrudes above the head. I don't know if it exceeds 84" in most-squashed-mode, but its possible.
Couple questions:
1. The 1100 spec sheet shows height of 81 3/4" (770 73") with stand I only have 84" to the ceiling. So looks like it will fit but would I need extra room for cover removal or maintenance?
2 Does the power drawbar add extra height to the unit(s), if so how much? This will be on my "must have" list.
So basically would I be able to use and or repair unit with only 2 1/4" clearance on the 1100?

Here's a thread where I asked a similar question. Don Clement's answer and the associated image will tell you everything you need to know.

Vertical Lathe tool holders and more.
Thanks guys.
Still need to know if PDB extends above original measurement. I do have the ability to position mill between the concrete I beams (guessing 20" between) and that would gain me another 7".
While I'm asking...what are your thoughts on the stand? $1650 seems like alot for a stand and would still need to be enclosed.
Although I may need to build my own stand anyway for clearance.
I'm still planing the Ann Arbor show to see it in person.

I think you're right. Watched bunch of videos today and stand looks really nice.
Plus I'm in the middle of a conversion now,YES it's fun but I'm really ready to just make some parts plus conversions are tough to do when machine(s) are apart. I'm done with the $1500 hobby machines using $10 end mills it's time to jump in with the big boys.
I believe the Tormach will last me a lifetime and be a good investment. (wife doesn't think so)
Man this CNC hobby just grabs your soul and sucks you in.
3 yrs ago I would have told you $20,000 machine is just for professionals. But all I knew then was manual and when I worked as machinists (way back when) CNC was a myth we heard about at NASA!
I know some of you remember those days if your shop had 3 Bridgeports and couple Warner & Swasey turret lathes you were king of the hill.
NO conversion this time around.![]()

What Steve S. said: Just do it.
I built a stand from Tormach's instructions. Spent days on it, significant bucks, trying to be frugal. Dumb decision. Lasted a couple months. Never did get rid of the leaks. Got the deluxe stand. Worth every penny.
BTW- an enclosure, using 8020 rails and surplus lexan, will add about three hundred bucks if you shop around. Also worth it.
