    Coolant pump blew something..

I got the 770 all hooked up today, and was playing with MDI and the jog shuttle. Everything worked fine.

I keyed in M8, but didn't hear the coolant pump go on. I finally reallized that I forgot to turn on the toggle switch on the motor so the pump could activate with the PC control.

While the spindle was running, I flipped the toggle switch on the coolant-pump-motor, then the 770 partially shut off. M8 was already keyed in when I turned the pump on. Now, some things are no longer working. I tried to reference the machine, but it doesn't move. The jog controller no longer works either.

The specs for the Graymills pump are:

    FLA 4.8/2.4 @ 60 hz
    1725 RPM
    1/4 HP

I thought that these specs are within the Tormach specs. Tormach is closed, so I thought I'd check here for any input. It looks like a fuse or something has blown. The pump works great when plugged into a wall outlet.

    Thanks.

Check FU6 in the electric cabinet. Sounds like the inrush current to your coolant pump blew the fuse.

All the fuses look good. I was just in the garage looking at the machine again.

    Thanks for the idea.

If you have a multimeter, check for continuity through the fuse to be sure. Sometimes it's hard to see a blown fuse. Just a shot in the dark. Sounds like you'll have to wait for Tormach tech support in the morning though.

Thanks for the input. I just checked with a multi-meter, and all fuses are good.

Are the LEDs on the stepper drivers at the top of the cabinet glowing?

    No.

I plugged the PC and monitor into a wall outlet to get them to turn on. Even with everything on, no LEDs are lit on the drivers.

Okay, there are two sets of fuses you need to look at. One set are in the white fuse box housings. The other set are on the green dc bus board. Did you check both sets?

If it's two on one board and seven or eight on the other (near the top), then yes, I checked both sets.

I appreciate the help. But, I'm headed to bed soon. I'll try Tormach tomorrow. I'm punch-drunk tired now.

    Thanks

The other fuse you need to look at, and the most likely cause, is in the while plastic fuse holders on the bottom right hand side of the cabinet. Not any of the ones on the circuit boards.

FU6 on the far right. Check the others as well.

This turned out to be it. I've never seen a fuse-holder like that. I guess that's why I didn't find it . I put in a 5A slow-blow, and it's working great now.

    Thanks for all the replies.
