    Coolant Upgrade???

I use my 1100 for some short run manufacturing and I make some serious chips. Unfortunately I think my fixture is the problem but still I have been wanting to do this for a while.

Has anyone tried to upgrade the coolant system?

I was looking to get THIS from MSC.

I really need more pressure and thus need a larger tank so I think this will work.

    Comments? Ideas? Experience based wisdom?
    TIA

    Kyle

I bought one about a month ago that looks identical to that. It's currently sitting in my shop unused, as I get about the same performance from a $60 Ace Hardware utility pump. Coolant pumps are generally designed for very high flow, but very little pressure.

I bought one just like that from Enco For just over $100... including the pump.

I used to run out of coolant... But I don't any more....

One of the problems I found with my original PCNC 1100 Series 1 coolant system was that the pump only extended 4" into the tank and therefore while the tank was about 6 gal capacity, I only had about 3 gals usable. And at full flow the coolant could not drain back into the tank fast enough to keep up with the outflow.
So before you do buy a larger tank, check how far the pump intake is above the floor of the tank. Note that sometimes the intake is on the top of the impeller housing, not the bottom.

Have a look at the Little Giant brand of submersible pumps. Remove the stock Tormach pump, connect the hose to the new pump output nipple, and throw the whole thing into the coolant tank. It is completely submersible, and the intake will suck the coolant all the way down to the bottom of the tank. You can run these pumps at pretty high flow, but be careful not to overrun the capacity of the hose from the top pan to the main tank. Damp down the output valve a bit to slow the flow. Don't ask me how I know this . I have been using one for a few years.

The coolant output outlet circuit on the Tormach uses a fairly small fuse so if you are going to get a pump that draws considerably more current than the standard one, you will want to use a relay setup where you use a separate power source for the pump and use the Tormach's outlet to switch the relay.

See my older post that describes and shows photos of my upgraded coolant system. I think it is just what you're looking for. I have been using it extensively since March of this year without any problems. Scroll down to my 3/16/2011 - 6:53 am reply for the photos.

WOW!!! Thats what I'm talking about!

What ice cube relay did you use? I found two 10A relay on partsexpress.com.

I am going to do the exact same thing. I have a full enclosure and I will flood the crap out of my parts!
