    TTS Face Mills DOC

I have a TTS Face Mill and a Maritool FM. I have not found any DOC data for either. So how do you really determine the MAX DOC that the tool could take? Is it the full height of the insert? (assuming enough HP and material?).

Granted the cut I need to take off the back side of my parts is .01, for me that would be AL (7075)

Guess what I am looking for is some general rules for using these indexible FM's.

Tormach did a video about face milling, with feeds, speeds and DOC.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1IXgLPq_nFQ]‪Face Milling with a Tormach PCNC‬‏ - YouTube

I took notes from it and have been using their numbers.

Aluminum 3600 RPM 90 IPM 0.020" DOC 70% STEP OVER
Steel 1020 RPM 24 IPM 0.050" DOC 70% STEP OVER
Stainless 730 RPM 28 IPM 0.040" DOC 70% STEP OVER

Thanks... I had forgot about that video... Exactly what I was looking for. At least I know I can go at least .05 which is probably more than I would ever want to FM.

I've done 0.05 in aluminum, but I could hear the spindle slowing down. It didn't stop, but it had me worried about going any deeper.

You can get deeper cuts in steels because the machine is put into low gear for those metals.

(you probably know this already. I'm putting it out there for anyone else who's reading the thread.)
