| I purchased Vectric Cut2D; toolpaths are limited to Profiles, Pocketing and Drilling but it was well worth the $149. Clear, simple user interface and included Mach2/3 post are clean. |

| falcon630, to answer the last part of your question yes, the current Tormach control software is Mach3 that has been custom-configured for the machine and locked to that configuration by John Prentice, who is very experienced in configuring and customizing Mach. Randy |

| falcon630, for application software it depends on what you want to do. For machine-type parts (i.e. vertical sides, flatbottom pockets, drilled holes etc.) you can't beat whatever 2D CAD you like that outputs DXF, and SheetCam. For my 2D I use VersaCAD (have since 1989, and now it is a native Win32 app! )For 3D contouring, you can use the freeware Alibre Xpress for CAD and the inexpensive MeshCAM. Just one suggestion--that is what I use (SheetCam and MeshCAM). Randy |

| Alibre is an alternative but it is a bit pricey for some. There is something called SheetCAM Free CAMBAM So many to chose from.

Tormach does not sell Alibre Professional on their site for $500-$750 Mike. They have a link that goes directly to the Alibre Site which clearly states the Price at $1848.00 for Professional, not including Maintenance which was $350 this year for Professional Users. Where are you getting your information??? http://www.tormach.com/Product_CAM.html https://www.alibre.com/store/ShoppingCart.aspx?add=true&ReturnUrl=http%3a%2f%2fwww.alibre.com%2fproducts%2fmechanical%2falibre_design_professional.asp

I use an older version of Solidworks with SprutCam I purchased with my mill. The learning curve with the Sprut is steep and I spent a couple weeks banging my head but one I got into it I am very pleased with it. I can now program something in minutes as opposed to hours before, just learning the routine. I'm sure most software has it's same issues. |
