The irony of this thread is that the machine sin_arms originally received was made in the same factory as the tormach SPL. The new FL300 is made in a different (z-mat) factory.

    Hopefully sin enjoys the fl300!

Probably difference in required quality control...

This thread is going to weigh heavily on which direction I go in the near future. 2017 has me looking for a new lathe......

    Keep us posted Sin_Arms.

He posted a video in the Smithy subforum.

I did get a different machine an FL300 II, so far it seems like 10x the machine, I am just waiting for some bushings and a chuck plate to show up so I can really start using it.

Isn't Smithy's tag line something like, "Guaranteed to Pay For Its self?" If so, I'd say they've breached their verbal contract with you and there by obligated to make reparations.

    Thanks for the heads up.

Seems unlikely, since Smithy kind of pioneered the "3 IN 1" lathe-mill for the hobbyist. Not exactly designed for production work. Until recently, they seem to have only been dabbling their toes in cnc machines.

Back when I first started looking into metal working machines Smithy was one of the ones I looked into and they did indeed use that hook to try to sell their machines. The following link is the PFD of their ad campaign from back in the day. I'm not sure if they're still using it but back before I got into CNC they were saying, "Guaranteed to Pay it's own way" or something to that effect. About midway down the first page is the proof; although I didn't notice any reference to their cnc offerings.

sure enough. Seems like a bad choice of slogans for what they were selling in manual machines.

Their new cnc offerings, on the other hand, look good, although it would be nice to see them settle on a smaller product line that doesn't have such a confusing overlap of specifications. Most cnc companies don't sell 6 different machines that all essentially have the same work envelope and power, all within 10-15% of the same price...
